In order to prevent any long term staining and increase the life of the patio cushions, just avoid getting any suntan lotions onto the fabric. When you are sunbathing, take a towel and cover the cushion for protection. The chemicals in tanning products will decrease the life of your cushions and leave behind dark, oily stains over a long period of time. But if you do get some suntan lotion on your cushions, quickly clean them with warm water and mild soap or detergent before a smudge forms. The cleaning will take only a few seconds but if you leave it be, it will take hours of hard scrubbing to get it off in the future. In order to maintain the look and the comfort of your cushions, always give them a good soap and water rinses every now and then. Do them once a month and have a thorough rinsing with the hose. You will be glad you did.
Regular patio chair cushions have two parts to fit regular chairs: one part for supporting the back and another for the butt. There are, however, almost as many designs of these cushions as there are kinds of chairs. There are long rectangular cushions for benches, cylindrical ones for stools and many others. Almost all kinds of patio chairs have corresponding cushions so it would not be hard to find one that suits your taste and your patio.
